Dinner in Salzburg

Dinner at the Brewery...I ate Weiner Schnitzel for the first...and last time!

Salzburg...I can't wait to go back!

Salzburg is one of the most beautiful towns I have ever seen. It is small and easy to get around. And it has some of the most gorgeous views I have ever seen. This picture is from the brewery where we ate dinner. The Cathedral to the right is incredible and the inside is breathtaking. The funny thing is that they were doing some work to the outside so on the scaffolding there are advertisements of Kylie Minogue. Odd! We didn't get a chance to do the Sound of Music tour but Katie and I are planning to stop by again before we head to Munich on our way home. We did get to see Mozart's birthplace...he sure could crank out some snappy tunes! And we saw these beautiful gardens and the castle and fortress. And we did take a tour of the Law School in Salzburg that has been around for 100s of years. The town was so peaceful...probably my favorite stop so far. Tomorrow we are off to Prague. We keep hearing this is the most beautiful city...that's hard to imagine but I'm looking forward to it!

Saturday in Budapest

At a cafe in front of St. Stephen's Church

Life is a game of luck...

This was hysterical! The most ridiculous little casino in the world. It was like we were extras in a Vegas movie from the 60s. At least they spoke good English here. Katie came out the big winner...roulette! It was a lot of fun!

Budapest Marriott...

Thank the Lord they had American food. We might have died from Goulash and Sausage if it weren't for the chicken fingers.

Budapest

Budapest...it turned out to be a really beautiful city! The Danube runs between Buda and Pest and really frames the whole city! When we first got there, we headed to the International Arbitration Court of Hungary...and then we headed off to the Marriott. Our hotel was right on the river so it was really gorgeous. Overall, we didn't get into too much trouble. Overall! :)

Disco Balls Still Reign in Austria

Our local cafe has a lovely disco ball that ordinarily comes out only on Friday and Saturday nights. But what happens when we start singing Prince tunes and singin' along to Greased Lightening... they turn it on...and give us free drinks!

Dinner at Johann's

CSOL at Dinner
We all had a surprisingly delicious meal of Austrian food: pork - surprise, surprise; cabbage; potatoes; and dumplings. After that, we hit up our favorite cafe near the campus to have a bier and sing 80s tunes in English! This weekend we are off to Budapest and will be back on Sunday!

Happy Hour!!!

Happy Hour at the Raabheim with Mrs. Sally!
We're on to day two of the class...I think I have some sense of what arbitration means...but all these rules are going to make me a wee bit crazy! Tonight we have a reception at the University with their president and other faculty. Apparently, we have to dress up...but all of my dress clothes are in a box that we shipped from the U.K. Hopefully, it will get here soon...with my suits and jeans and clothes! I haven't ventured to the laundry yet...but that will probably happen before we head to Budapest this weekend!

Linz - It's absolutely beautiful. Austria is gorgeous and the people are extremely friendly...they sometimes wear odd clothes...a la short cut off jeans and a sleeveless tank...on a man...but friendly nevertheless. Tomorrow we start class...I could do without that! I'm having too much fun to study!

Ciao...

Linz is for lovers...

We got orientated and it was lovely. In fact all of the Charleston students sat on the back two rows and napped...not really but one can dream. We took a tour of the town with Professor Lanier and then hit up The Chelsea pub. We then ate a lovely meal with meat still on the bone...Sarah's personal favorite and kept drinking. We then took a tour of the Bermuda triangle and Katie bonded with some 15 year olds that were in the club. Two GSU students took it to the streets with a lover's quarrel complete with domestic abuse and shouts of breaking up and making up at least 3 times. About that time Sarah decided that she could not walk anymore and fell flat on her face in the middle of a cobblestone street. We realized she was fine when she rolled over and was laughing so hard she was snorting. Michele, she is ok. It is only day 1 and already drama, drama, drama. How exciting. We got a cab and came back to the lovely Raabheim because as anyone knows we all hate drama. I slept until 12 today and finally got up after Sarah and Katie entered my room repeatedly and would not leave me alone. "Housekeeping!" We tried to go to the Concentration camp but missed one of the trains and ended up in a random small town. Very interesting. Now we are back at the lovely Rabbheim dead tired and ready to wake up bright eyed an bushy tailed for class early tomorrow.

In St. James' Pub near Picadilly Circus before we saw Cabaret. The show was fantastic.

We're in front of Buckingham Palace waiting for our tea time with the Queen.

Looks like we made it...

Have you ever slept in a locked and upright position for 7 hours? Perhaps you've taken a few "xanies" and still couldn't manage to breathe? Maybe you fell asleep in a lavatory on an airplane? We did...and it was AWESOME!

We arrived in London on Tuesday morning at Gatwick to find the most enormous line/throng/queue of folk waiting to have their passports stamped. Unlike any line one would see at an amusement park or Wal-mart, this gaggle of foreign cattle weaved through a maze until finally we three American Amigas made it though. This is not before we saw someone cry, someone scream, and some curse the Bloody English. But we made it. Then we headed to the Mandeville Hotel...Lord Help Them...to check in. They were very helpful people but when we finally left, we could sense an overwhelming sense of relief that they were finally rid of those 'American Girls.' Indeed, the collective sigh could be felt all across London. But before they were rid of us...we saw Cabaret - naked peoples, the Tower of London - executed peoples and Katie's favorite, the British Museum - mummy peoples, Westminster Abbey - dead peoples, and Buckingham Palace - French, slightly smelly peoples. We did the double-decker bus tour, saw Mary Poppins in the West End, begged for bangers and mash at TigerTiger, ate bangers and mash at Sherlock Holmes' pub...but we weren't brave enough to try the 'spotted dick' for dessert, answered phones in the British phone booths, and walked the streets of London while navigating the Underground and 'minding the gap."

Overall, London was a delightful beginning to our journey across Europe. We left London on Friday morning and arrived in Linz a few hours ago. The people here are so friendly and helpful. And they don't mind laughing and helping with our terrible Deutsche. Tomorrow we begin our orientation for the International Commercial Arbitration class. Once we figure out what International Commercial Arbitration is...we will let you know!

Ciao!
